David M. Tapper Scholarship
The Delaware Valley Chapter of the Nam Knights Motorcycle Club established the Nam Knights M/C David M. Tapper Memorial Scholarship in 2004. The scholarship is funded entirely by the Delaware Valley Chapter from their general operating fund. The scholarship was established to honor the memory of United States Navy Seal, David M. Tapper, a former resident of Waterford Township, NJ, who was killed in action in Afghanistan on August 20, 2003. In 2006, we extended the scholarship eligibility to Winslow Township High School and Hammonton High School students to honor David Tapper’s alma mater.
Eligibility
The applicant must either currently reside within Waterford Township, New Jersey, or attend Winslow Township High School or Hammonton High School. The award will be given to current high school seniors and recent graduates to further their education at a junior college, technical institute, or a four-year university/college. Dependents of Vietnam Veterans, military veterans and law enforcement are encouraged to apply, but said dependency is not mandatory.
Award
The Award, up to $1000.00, will be paid directly to the school of the recipient’s choice upon confirmation that the student has been accepted by, and enrolled at the institution.
Type of Scholarship
The David M. Tapper Memorial Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of the applicant’s motivation to accomplish his/her educational goals, career goals, dependency of Vietnam/military veteran or law enforcement, citizenship and leadership. Financial need is a consideration only when other factors weigh equally among applicants.
Deadline
All applications must be received by May 30th of the current year.
Application Procedure
Students can obtain an application from their Guidance Office, by contacting the Delaware Valley Chapter of the Nam Knights M/C at the Chapter website at http://www.namknights.org. The student should complete the application and submit it by the deadline date of May 30th to:

Recommendations by one teacher and one adult are required. If you are a high school graduate that has not yet enrolled in college courses, the reference from a teacher may be substituted with an employer reference. Recommendations should be completed and returned to the Delaware Valley Chapter on or before May 30th. (Deadline may be extended at the discretion of the chapter.)
Selection Procedure
The Scholarship Committee of the Delaware Valley Chapter of the Nam Knights will review all applications. The Delaware Valley Chapter Executive Board will approve the recommendation of the Scholarship Committee and awards will be announced by mail.
Distribution of Funds
The scholarship award will be paid directly to the school upon receipt of acknowledgement that the winner has been enrolled as a student.
